Shambala Voodoo Luck

Shambala is soon and Duggan and I are going to be performing very strange voodoo rituals and giving away voodoo fortunes.

Talking in tongues, wearing leather capes with glitter, multi-coloured, terrifying, silly, costumes.

Today I made the fortunes. Inside each tiny jar is a tiny fortune, some glitter and powdered paint.

Pour out the contents, blow a puff of colourful, glittery cloud, find out your fortune.

It’s going to be fun.

Here are some of the fortunes:

  • You are an able man.
  • You are a beautiful woman.
  • Do or do not. There is no try.
  • You’ll never be any good at gardening.
  • He who laughs at himself never runs out of things to laugh at.
  • The fortune you seek is in a different fortune.
  • Your days shall be long and your dreams fulfilled.
  • The nightlife is for you.

Craig Atkinson’s Monsters

A couple of months ago, I came across Craig Atkinson, (found him on the Boooooom website)

He drew these:

Which are quite like these… Apart from the ones I have made have much less suspicious eyes. Here are my monsters, which I have been playing with for 4 years now. A fancy dress costume, a nail design, a drawing, wallpaper.

So after finding him, I got back into the monsters, and had a little go at creating something like his collective. cutting paper to size, allowing it to stand up. It’s like a little army.

Craig Atkinson’s website is here, and contains a lot of photographs of Britain, drawings and a collection of Spanish serviettes. He also lectures and directs Café Royal Books. A busy man! Find him on Twitter: @craigatkinson

The Invisible Circus: St. Valentine’s day Massaquerade

“A night of heart breaking, soul shaking, rip roaring circus, theatre and spectacle played out to a seductive, melt your heart soundtrack from some of the hottest live bands and DJs around!”
The Invisible Circus’s St. Valentine’s day Massaquerade / Massacre / Masquerade is going to be incredible. This will be another sell-out event, and I have managed to get some tickets! As for the ‘Shotgun wedding’ dress code, I’m trying to think of something more exciting than just a plain old bloodied bride fancy dress costume. Any ideas?

Invisible Circus Day of the Dead Ball

Sounds good! I am busy making my halloween costume(S?) and excited about this weekend’s Zombie Walk, and possibly this Day of the Dead Ball by the Invisible Circus. Carneyville was just so good, I need more! So the dress code is ‘dead cool’?? How about cucumber? Ugh I hate cucumber! Or dressing as your general dead person… but where can I find colored contact lenses?

The Invisible Circus presents Carny Ville!

Wow I had a great night out last night. Carny Ville is a ‘circus theatre extravaganza’ and I was on of the lucky ones who could manage to get a ticket for the sold out show. The Invisible Circus and Art Space Life Space have transformed the Old Fire Station for the last time to create what feels like a circus village and reminded me of visiting Universal Studios when I was little.

There were 350 performers and apparently only 1000 tickets were on sale. All kinds of things were going on; tours of the police cells, Portrait photography, tightrope action, amazing live music played from a prison cell in the sky, silly dancing, a sit-down theatre, Carny Ville shops, everything… It was a real experience, I want to go again! They have just announced another weekend’s dates – the 2nd and 3rd October. the tickets are not yet sold out, but will be, so move fast! Book tickets here

Oh and everyone was in fabulous fancy dress. I felt like I was in a time warp.

In their words: “The spectacle inhabits every aspect and environ of the site with interactive installations and performances ongoing through out the evening from dizzying high wire walkers across the gaping yard space to twisted sideshows, huge Fire spectacles and flame breathing lamp posts alongside an army of deranged walkabout characters who inhabit this bizarre other world.”
