New Years Day Collage

Yep, there is is. The first collage of 2013. I’m not going to overcommit to a ‘one a day’ thingy, but I want to commit to generally ‘doing more’ collaging. The stripy orange bit is an airplane sick bag, the chap+house from a skating mag, a building from a real photo and a bit of orange from a note pad. I signed it and everything!

The Mapping of Jerry Gretzinger

The Mapping of Jerry Gretzinger. From 1963 to the Stopping Point

Started drawing a map, it started as a doodle. Hefinished a whole page and found himself moving onto other pages, joining them up.

One piece a day. He goes to his studio as soon as he wakes up. Spending time re-mixing paints. He’s made a deck of cards which he chooses one from, which instructs him on which of his half-finished maps he will firstly archive, and then work on. Other cards have different instructions.

This was a great video, I love how much detail there is about Jerry’s working process and the structures behind his making.

Jerry is working on exhibiting the entire project:

The concept is that the installation will be about half complete when the show opens on October 5 and will continue until Saturday afternoon, the 6th. Visitors will be able to watch the process. I will be there helping and, when the installation is done, will be working in my on-stage studio and answering questions. The show will close on Sunday the 14th or the following day. We’ll be more specific soon.

How I wish I likes in America and could see this!

Music to work to

Hello Easter break! I have been enjoying having the long weekend off, and now I have another week ‘off work’ (ie. no Light Box work, just me in my studio making stuff – which I have not done in months) I’m really enjoying it, and I have a week’s holiday abroad to look forward to as well.

Today it’s just me in the studio, sorting some pens and making some stuff. Bliss.

Music to work to today:

Mono printing

I have been working pretty hard on my ‘Text Project’ and needed some escape from that. I’ve chosen it to be mundane and repetitive, and I love that, but sometimes I do need to release some more creativity within some other format. And yesterday, this came through mono printing. I used my little roller, and a piece of acetate to ink up, it’s so easy and mess-free. I used some sequins too, and got involved with drawing a lot of small squares, again – very repetitive, I can’t get away from it! The little pictures are not hanging on a washing-line type of structure in my studio – I have always wanted a studio with things hanging from washing lines, and now I have it. I’m so lucky.
