My Handwritten Fonts

Brill tool, Ifontmaker, for the Ipad. So simple and easy, and £4.99 at the Appstore. I really recommend it. I’m pretty happy with the fonts I made. Get Ifontmaker here.

Here’s the first two. They are in the public domain, so you’re free to use them for personal or commercial use. Click on them to be transferred to the page where you can get the free download of them.

After I made those two, I thought I could have a bit more fun than just trying to make another font, which would probably turn out to be very similar to those two I’d already made, so I thought I could make a font of my monsters… Soon to feature on a Barfoot and Duggan duvet cover for children. This one’s called ‘Jumbo

One more! This one’s called ‘BingBing’ and it’s a bit of a hairy one… only did the caps for this one, it took a crazy amount of time.

I bloody love fonts. Here’s some great resources, which I use regularly for my design work:

And a couple of cool things:

Roughs for web staff profiles

Playing around. I’ve had ‘create my staff intro for website’ on my things to do list this week, for Light Box. Then I realised, I am creative director of this! The words come easy, but what about what this page is to look like. So I made this, and it’s so nice to get my brain out of ‘admin mode’ where the page format is correct and the printer keeps getting paper jams.

Christiana Acouceiro

Image copyright, Cristiana Couceiro.
This lovely image just appeared on my screen. Cristiana Couceiro’s blog – Hue and Saturation – is great, you should look at it. And her website too. She is an illustrator living in Lisbon.
Her work is mostly computerised collage, and I love her appreciation of color. This piece is the start of a new project based on memory and time. everything she churns out is admired by me!

Brian Griffith Artist Talk

What an great day I had yesterday! I attended an inspiring Artist’s talk at the Arnolfini by Brian Griffiths, who is a twitchy man who pretty much is Columbo. I forgot how full-up i get after listening to Artists talk about their working practice, the things they have made, what works about their stuff and what doesn’t. I’m definately going to go to a lot more of these talks, for sure. It’s nice to sit in a dark room too. Like the cinema, but with lots of note-making!

Before i go to bed, I found this T-shirt website Chimpogo which is looking for people to submit designs and slogans. Money prizes for the one which will be chosen to be sold on the website. I think i’ll submit something tomorrow.
